What To Expect From Virtual Therapy For Anxiety

Our online anxiety therapy is always personalized to meet each client’s unique needs. You can rest assured that Resilience Lab’s clinicians have the tools and expertise to help you achieve your goals. Here’s what your therapy journey may look like.

Identify the Issues

During your sessions, you and your clinician will work together to identify the root causes of your anxiety. This allows for more targeted interventions, specifically designed to address the underlying triggers of your anxious thoughts.

Is It Anxiety or OCD?

OCD is often mistaken as anxiety. Without proper diagnosis and treatment, anxiety or OCD symptoms can worsen. Working with a knowledgeable provider to determine whether you’re experiencing OCD or anxiety can make a world of difference.

Create Long-Term Goals

At Resilience Lab, anxiety therapy is oriented to produce both short and long term results–you’ll work with your therapist to create long-term goals for managing your anxiety, paving the way to a healthier future.

Break Free from the Past

With the guidance of your therapist, you’ll work to overcome anxiety by breaking free of the past, learn how to stop worrying about things you cannot control, and to let go of negative associations from past experiences.

Understand the Signs of Anxiety

Your Resilience Lab therapist will help you identify the signs of anxiety, empowering you to take control of anxiety symptoms and break negative thinking patterns.

Personalize Your Care Plan

Together, you and your therapist will create and evolve a personalized anxiety treatment plan, determining which therapeutic approaches and areas of focus are most important for your unique needs.

Types of Virtual Anxiety Therapy We Offer

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is one of the most common approaches used to treat anxiety. It addresses the negative thought patterns of anxiety, which distort how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. First, treatment will focus on the troubling or negative thoughts involved in anxiety disorders. Then you’ll explore how those thoughts contribute to unwanted behaviors. In this way, CBT can help identify and reassess negative, anxious thoughts and break the pattern. CBT for anxiety is often goal-oriented, with providers establishing guidelines to help patients actively participate. CBT may involve “homework” between sessions, or assignments that help patients practice and apply the skills they learn from providers in real-life scenarios. This collaborative, hands-on approach empowers patients to take an active role in their own journey towards anxiety management, fostering a sense of control and self-sufficiency.

Exposure Therapy For Anxiety

Because anxiety is such an unpleasant feeling, anxiety disorders can often lead patients to avoid people, situations, and scenarios that may make them anxious. As its name suggests, exposure therapy encourages the patient to confront situations that make them anxious, and that they might otherwise try to avoid. Exposure may be practiced in one of two ways—the therapist may ask the patient to imagine uncomfortable scenarios, or encourage them to confront these situations in real life. Ultimately, this therapeutic approach centers on the idea that through exposure, the individual will develop a sense of control over anxiety-provoking scenarios, reducing the associated anxiety in the process. Exposure therapy may be practiced in conjunction with other methods such as CBT.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a type of therapy that helps clients accept their thoughts and feelings, rather than fighting them. In ACT, patients learn to observe their thoughts and emotions without passing judgment or criticizing themselves. This also helps someone become more familiar with the thinking patterns at the root of anxiety issues. As its name suggests, ACT focuses on encouraging people to accept matters that are beyond their control, enabling them to recognize and experience discomfort without letting it negatively impact their lives. The second, critical aspect of ACT is encouraging a commitment to acting in a way that aligns with your values. By making these commitments, clients learn to cultivate purpose and fulfillment in spite of anxiety. This empowers clients to live a rich and meaningful life even in the presence of anxiety and its challenges. Through these approaches, ACT promotes lasting change and long-term emotional wellness.

Personalized Approach

At Resilience Lab, our providers develop a personalized approach to help patients overcome the anxieties they’re facing. Rather than adopting just one type of therapeutic approach, your personalized care plan may incorporate multiple types of anxiety therapy, or blending and combining different therapeutic approaches for optimal results.
